Housing Domestic Violence Survivors, their families, and companion animals.
shelter together
Domestic violence shelters provide a safe refuge and promote future independence for people experiencing any of the many forms of domestic abuse.
Oftentimes these refugees are mothers, who care for children or other family members. As well as these dependents, many survivors may have pets (also referred to as companion animals) who they need to care for. Data shows that many women do not seek shelter due to shelters not allowing companion animals for a multitude of reasons.
This project is designed to alleviate the need for these women remain or leave their pets behind in a potentially unsafe environment.

Housing animals comes with a wealth of considerations, especially those who may have anxiety or other behavior considerations due to a high likelihood of abusive living conditions. Private rooms feature appropriate items for each animal’s needs.
Canine spaces are separated by size, so larger dogs can move around during the day, but not so large that they feel unsafe. Smaller dogs, have a proportionally sized space for them as well. Beds keep the dogs off of the floor, and are appropriate for any age animal.
Feline Boarding room features cat tree, window, vertical climbing space, litter box, and food & water as far from litter as possible.
